SAPS urges help stop the trade in stolen goods
Brighton Beach police encourage individuals against accepting offers to buy stolen goods as well as to report those who trade in stolen goods.
THE purchasing and selling of stolen goods generates an increase in criminal activities. The demand for stolen property increases, as the market for stolen items grows.
To address this, a flyer campaign hosted within the Brighton Beach policing area on Tuesday, 1 June to encourage individuals against accepting offers to buy stolen goods as well as to report those who trade in stolen goods.
“An increase in the theft of brass water meters and water pipes taken from residential areas, copper cabling, the theft of air conditioners and piping from business premises are experienced within the Brighton Beach policing prescient. The reporting of the theft of illegal trade in copper cable and other non-ferrous metals is encouraged through the flyer campaign.
“Through the flyer campaign we achieved the strategic objective of the organisation, by hosting an awareness initiative that warns residents and the business sector of prevailing crime trends, while also empowering residents to assist the police to be our eyes and ears in combatting crime through making the necessary reports to the various service providers,” said Brighton Beach communications officer, Captain Louise le Roux.
Le Roux and Warrant Officer Theo Van Noordwyk are thanked for their operational deployment on the day. Brighton Beach SAPS also expresses its thanks and appreciation towards the Bluff Hillside Mall for affording the police a platform to host the awareness initiative.
