Brighton Beach police encourage reporting human traffickers
Captian Le Roux of Brighton Beach Saps said human trafficking exists in many forms due to individuals being vulnerable to exploitation.
THE public was alerted to human trafficking and its impending dangers.
On Monday, August 15 Captain Louise le Roux of the Brighton Beach police hosted a brochure campaign, as part of the station’s Women’s Month operational activities.
Researched and developed by her, 350 educational brochures were distributed at the Bluff Hill Side Mall.
“It is imperative that we educate ourselves on matters relating to human trafficking while becoming an active participant in the fight against it,” she said.
Human trafficking can be defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring, or receipt of people. This can be carried out by means of threat, the use of force, or other forms of coercion.
These include abduction, fraud, deception, abuse of power, the position of vulnerability, giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person, or having control over another person for the purpose of exploitation.
Le Roux said human trafficking in its many forms exists due to individuals being vulnerable to exploitation.
“Victims of human trafficking are people of all ages, genders, races, countries, religious believers, and socio-economic statuses.”
“The brochure distributed explained some categories of human trafficking, which include sexual exploitation, forced labour, debt, bondage, domestic servitude, organ harvesting, and child exploitation,” she said.
