Annual dance festival returns to Playhouse

THE Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation (WACO) is excited to announce the 8th Annual Durban Dance Movement Festival taking place on September, 3 and 4.
The Durban Dance Movement Festival is a dance production that showcases different dance styles like hip-hop, break dancing, African contemporary, ballet and amapiano celebrating the best diversity in KZN.
With the arts funding cuts from the government, lack of support and the hard impact of Covid-19, many arts organisations and companies have ceased operations but WACO is still hanging on a thread to host its much-loved festival and continue showcasing the choreographic works of its artists and dancers.
The show, hosted at The Playhouse Company, will have 10 dance studios and companies that will perform their choreographic works over three separate shows comprising of professionals, senior and junior level dancers. The festival is comprised of video footage of performances and live stage performances.
Although the show will be on a smaller scale in order to adhere to strict Covid-19 protocols, the organisation’s director Jarryd Watson was excited about the positive response from the public with tickets sold out on the same day of release.
