New NPO seeks to promote social change through empowerment

TO uplift and empower the women and children of the community.
This is the main objective of the newly formed Community Reach-out Youth (CRY) Initiative on the Bluff.
The non-profit organisation is determined to empower women and children by educating and empowering them about their legal rights, providing support to the reporting of offences, rebuilding lives, and making sure perpetrators are brought to justice.
“We all need to do more to prevent violence against women and children and to make our nation a safe place where children can grow and ultimately reach their highest potential,” CRY Initiative’s PA to the Director, Chantal Horrocks.
The organisation recognises the youth as the foundation to building a better tomorrow and aims to promote income-generating activities, training and skills acquisition through the advocacy of basic human rights, children’s rights and protection thereof. “We stand against gender-based violence and encourage victims to come forward by sharing their personal stories and help clean up their communities of abusers.
“Our other objectives include working towards achieving gender equality by educating our society through seminars, conferences, workshops and public education campaigns. Through this end, we will raise awareness and inspire the understanding of problems related to gender-based violence, the impact of domestic violence on children’s emotional and psychological well-being as well as encourage women to actively participate in social change that would enable a more stable home environment for children.
“I’d like to work with other NPOs as well so we can come together as a united front against the social and economic challenges that affect the most vulnerable of society. This way we’re going to get out more and the result will be better. It’s in the giving. It’s not what you’re giving, it’s the joy in the giving. There’s nothing better than knowing you touched someone’s life when they needed it most,” she said.
Chantal shared that there are many other plans and strategies in the pipeline aimed at the development and greater good of the community. Fundraising initiatives will also be announced in the near future to finance their projects.
