Obituary of Pastor George Bridger
The pastor faithfully served the community at the Ebenezer Worship Centre in Fynnlands since 1984.
PASTOR George Bridger succumbed to his illness on Sunday, September 26 after a brave battle with Covid-19.
After falling ill, he was admitted to Life Entabeni Hospital on Monday, August 23 and spent a month on a ventilator.
He was born on 4 March 1947 and through his life’s work, he was well known on the Bluff. Bridger served the community as a pastor at the Ebenezer Worship Centre in Fynnlands since 1984.
He dedicated his life to preaching the gospel and his heart was always open to those with spiritual or other needs. He was the principal of a satellite bible college as well as the regional church leader.
He encouraged students to go and establish churches to bring the gospel. Mark Paileth is a pastor who has established such a church in Verulam.
“He could never leave the house without someone walking up to him to chat or just to say hello. His passing leaves a large vacuum on the Bluff.”
“He enjoyed collaborating with other churches and often invited ministers to his church. He reciprocated this by preaching at their churches. He always asked that we celebrate his entry into heaven rather than mourn his passing away,” said his son, Duane.
Before his passing, the 74-year-old man of the cloth was looking forward to celebrating his 55th wedding anniversary this month.
He leaves behind a loving wife, Freda, three children, Duane, Lionel and Gail, six grandchildren, godchild, Tyrone and his child. He was laid to rest at Stellawood Cemetery.
