Hot weather conditions compound power outages

EThekwini Municipality informs residents that it is aware of the high number of power outages currently plaguing various parts of the City.

“Power outages are constant and ever present especially during extreme heat as this causes our sub-stations to blow or from extreme rain resulting in popped fuses on poles,” explained ward 66councillor Zoe Solomon.
“This situation has been compounded by recent extreme hot weather conditions as well as the aftermath of load shedding. Several sub-stations blew up in different parts of the city and many areas experienced power trips. Cable theft also remains a major contributor to outages in certain areas. Municipal teams are currently on the ground attending to all affected areas.
“While some areas are back on the grid, we continue to work tirelessly to return the situation to normalcy. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and we are appealing to the public to bear with us,” reads an eThekwini statement.
