Public clinic committee applications open

Austerville Clinic, Bluff Clinic, Merebank Clinic, Clairwood Gateway and Wentworth Gateway are part of the list of clinics where interested persons can apply for the committee membership.

The MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane calls for nominations for committee membership to public Community Healthcare Centres (CHC) or clinics in the province as per stipulations of section 42 of the National Health Act, Act 61 of 2003.

Nominees should contact their local clinic, CHC, local hospital or district office to be served any enquiries.

Austerville Clinic, Bluff Clinic, Merebank Clinic, Clairwood Gateway and Wentworth Gateway are part of the list of clinics where interested persons can apply for the committee membership.

A full list of CHCs and clinics are available on the Health Departments website on www.kznhealth.gov.za.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: must be older than 18 years old, be of good standing in the community, live in the jurisdiction of the particular clinic and must represent the communities served by the clinic.

Other conditions include not having been previously convicted of a crime without an option of a fine unless they have received a pardon. Applicants must also not be certified by a court of law as being of unsound mind.

The membership is voluntary work and board members are responsible for supporting clinic management with decisions, design of policy and strategy, providing advisory technical support, oversight and governance on customer care as well as provide advice on finances and expenditure reviews.

Other responsibilities include providing support on human resource issues, strengthening community participation, providing advocacy for both communities and the clinic as well as mobilise for sponsorship in line with the relevant legislation and prescripts.

Applications should be submitted on a covering letter and should be accompanied by recently certified copies of qualifications (preferably within three months), ID or passport, curriculum vitae and any supporting motivation from relevant organisations including names and contact details of three references must be submitted.
