YESS to break boundaries through tech-savvy donation
YESs was the recipient of a generous donation from Energy Drive recently.
CHRISTMAS came a little early this year for the Youth Education Support Services (YESS) who were blessed with a generous donation of three laptops, an overhead projector and screen, a Bluetooth speaker and Wi-Fi connection from Energy Drive.
“This donation means so much to us. We are in a digital era where children need to have access to technology and unfortunately, it is not accessible to a lot of our children in the Wentworth community. Through this new equipment, they will learn how to use these devices as well as how to use the internet and do online research.
“As a reading and education centred organisation, we know that reading is not a priority in a lot of homes in our community. We are trying to push those boundaries and to do everything in our power to make the educational experience as pleasant and as accessible as possible, said YESS chairperson, Linda James.
“It is a privilege to work with YESS. We are proud as Energy Drive that we can support and be involved in this project. Wentworth is close to my heart and it is great to find a way to support its youth and contribute to their growth and skills development going forward,” said Energy Drive account manager, David Claassens who is also an ex-learner of Fairvale Secondary School where Linda used to work as a teacher.
Speaking on YESS’ plans for 2022, Linda said the organisation will distribute stationery hampers to underprivileged children before schools reopen.
She hopes to officially launch the reading and learning centre next year once everything is complete and to coincide with the reopening of the schools.
“We haven’t had our homework club since the hard lockdown last year. So we are excitedly looking forward to having the children come back for that as well.”
YESS is still looking to fill its books shelves at the centre and appeal for child and youth-friendly fiction and non-fiction books in good condition.
