Bluff couple all set to take on first Comrades Marathon

The couple motivate each other and are each others biggest supporters.

GEARED up to take on the Comrades Marathon, Bluff couple, Tanya and Dylan Weweje, are excited about being able to compete and complete together at the ultimate human race.
After being convinced by her friend to run at a park with her in 2019, Tanya, 37, soon found herself at the starting line of a time trial run at the Bluff Athletics Club, and never looked back.

Tanya Weweje began her journey as an athlete in 2019.

“The running bug bit me and I have been running ever since. I love running and pushing myself to see what I can accomplish. It’s the best feeling. When I joined the Bluff Athletics Club, my husband came to every race and was my biggest supporter. He then decided to join me on my running journey and found it as a way to stay fit together. We have run together ever since. We do challenge one another on the road and we keep each other motivated,” said Tanya.

Dylan Weweje joined his wife in the world of athletics in 2021.

Dylan’s journey as an athlete began in 2021.
The couple, who share two children together, aged 11 and eight, said while they are definitely feeling the anxiety ahead of the marathon, they are excited about being able to compete.

The couple juggles parenthood with making time for work and training.

“We anticipate tired legs and a sore body, but we are up for the challenge. As parents, the only challenge is time. We have to get up early and make time, juggling work and the children, and still be able to ensure that we do all our training runs. Our advice to other athletes is that it is never too late to start. Until you do, you will not know what your body is capable of. Hard work and perseverance will lead to great success,” said the couple.
