Police vow zero tolerance for Easter law breakers

Motorists are urged to obey speed limits and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol.

THE metro police have announced plans to intensify roadblocks throughout the Easter holiday period. The police have vowed to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against law breakers, drunk drivers, and vehicle overloading during the holidays.

With safety at the forefront of their agenda, the police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to maintain order and prevent road incidents during this festive season.

Colonel Booysie Zungu emphasised the critical importance of adhering to traffic regulations and responsible driving practices.

“We expect all road users to adhere strictly to the rules of the road. All congregants planning to travel abroad during the Easter holidays are strongly encouraged to avoid overloading. Prior to transporting passengers, drivers must meticulously inspect the roadworthiness of their vehicles,” said Zungu.

He said the police will conduct preemptive visits to taxi ranks ahead of Good Friday to ensure compliance with road regulations among taxi drivers.

As the Easter holidays approach, city streets are set to witness a surge in activity, with families embarking on journeys to reunite with loved ones and vacationers hitting the road for well-deserved getaways.

In line with their commitment to maintaining road safety, the metro police have announced intensified patrols, sobriety checkpoints and stringent enforcement measures throughout the holiday period. Officers will be stationed at key intersections and popular travel routes, equipped with the latest technology and training to identify and apprehend offenders swiftly.

Additionally, Zungu urged members of the public to play their part in ensuring a safe and enjoyable holiday season.

“We urge all motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Let us work together to make this Easter a time of joy and celebration, free from the tragedies of road accidents,” said Zungu.
