Twelve-year sentence for Wentworth’s accused murderer

The accused was arrested in Umlazi after eluding law enforcement.

A MAN accused of a murder that occurred in 2021 was sentenced to 12 years in prison at the Durban Regional Court on April 3. Kwenzokuhle Dlamini (24) stood trial for the stabbing of Bongumusa Ndlovu. The incident occurred outside Ndlovu’s workplace on Lansdowne Road in Jacobs on January 11, 2021.

Dlamini was arrested by the police after fleeing the Wentworth area to seek refuge in Umlazi.

According to police spokesperson Captain Mbuso Gumede of Wentworth SAPS, the altercation ensued when Ndlovu encountered Dlamini outside the company premises after work hours, leading to a serious confrontation. Following the stabbing, Ndlovu was rushed to Wentworth Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

After the crime, the accused fled the scene.

“Upon the discovery of the crime scene, vispol members initiated a murder investigation. Detective Sergeant Bhekithemba Zulu was tasked with the investigation and successfully located the suspect in Umlazi on January 12, 2021. Zulu meticulously gathered evidence, which was presented in court during the trial proceedings.

“Following numerous court appearances, the accused was remanded into Westville Prison. On March 28, he was convicted of murder and subsequently sentenced to 12 years of direct imprisonment on April 3. Additionally, he was deemed unfit to possess a firearm,” said Gumede.

Station commander Colonel Sinaye Mtshali commended Detective Sergeant Zulu for his dedication and commitment to the investigation, ensuring that the accused faced consequences for his actions.
