In a statement issued on Thursday (May 23), the municipality said the supply interruption is required to allow eThekwini Electricity to facilitate an urgent high-voltage circuit breaker repair at its upstream substation which supplies the Mobeni South Substation.

“To execute this work safely, it is necessary to interrupt electricity supply at the Mobeni South Substation,” read the statement.

Parts of the following areas may be affected:

Joe Slovo, Lamontville, Merebank, Mobeni Heights, Moorton, Umhlathuzana and Yellowwood Park Industrial.

Residents who are not switched off by 09:15 can assume they are not affected by this outage. During this outage, the public is advised to treat all electrical installations as live.

For further information and enquiries relating to the outage, call the contact centre on 080 3111 111.
