Residents of The Bluff, Montclair, Yellowwood Park, Wentworth and Merebank can all expect to be affected by a planned water restriction tomorrow (July 23).

THE eThekwini Municipality has announced planned water restrictions affecting reservoirs supplied by the Wiggins Treatment Water Works Gravity System. These restrictions will occur on Tuesday (July 23) from 08:00 to 16:00.

The City’s Water and Sanitation Unit will close its valves to facilitate an assessment by uMngeni-uThukela Water (UWW) in preparation for a major shutdown in August. This assessment is necessary for the replacement of 1 200mm diameter meters on the gravity bulk pipeline.

During the assessment, the City’s valves will be closed, and the pipeline will be drained to evaluate water flow and ensure safe conditions for meter replacement. This project aims to reduce water losses and improve the water supply to the affected reservoirs.

Residents are advised to minimise water consumption before and after the shutdown. The areas impacted by the restrictions include:

  • Jacobs
  • Merebank East
  • Merewent
  • Fynnlands
  • Austerville
  • Brighton Beach
  • Grosvenor
  • Montclair
  • Woodlands

The municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused. For further information regarding water supply, residents can download the eThekwini Municipality mobile app to log faults, send a WhatsApp message to 073 1483 477, call the toll-free number 080 311 1111, or email Eservices@durban.gov.za.
