Arcadia seniors experience Christmas magic early with festive fête

The festive fête brought together around 500 people who were able to shop a variety of items to raise much-needed funds for the retirement village.

CHRISTMAS cheer and a jolly atmosphere filled the Arcadia Retirement Village as it hosted its early Christmas fête on November 9. The fete attracted around 500 people who were able to shop at a variety of stalls.

Arcadia Retirement Village Entertainment committee chairperson, Dawn Coetzee, said she was thrilled with the success of the event which had drawn a record number of 30 vendors. Treasures on sale included glamorous jewellery and handmade Christmas decorations and visitors and residents were also able to buy delicious foods. Other wares on offer included preloved clothing, books, glassware and linen. The highlight of the day was, without a doubt, ice-cream treats from a visiting truck.

Sharon du Plessis, Kathy Baker and Debbie Smith were selling a variety of cakes and sweets.

Santa Claus was the cherry on top of the already merry atmosphere; he visited and presented sweets to the children, thus adding to the Christmas spirit. Live music throughout the day increased the gaiety of the fête.

Ampie Vermeulen, dressed as Santa, paid a visit to the Arcadia fête to hand out sweets to the children.

“The day brought in R13 480 for us, which will go towards funding the village’s Christmas lunch and other resident activities up to the end of January. Without the support of The Bluff community, we could not have made this day such a success,” said Dawn Coetzee.

Coetzee extended her thanks to TSS-Tactical Security Services for ensuring a safe day, ward 66 councillor Zoë Solomon who sponsored a tea garden, Bluff Super Spar, visitors and residents for all their support.

The Arcadia Retirement Village pre-Christmas fête exemplified the true essence of community and Christmas spirit.
