Teams of first responders and security personnel quickly descended on the scene following preliminary reports that the fire is close to the diesel line for Transet.
Solomon said people from an informal settlement nearby were immediately asked to leave their area amid the risk of the fire spreading and a nearby diesel line.

“There could be a very dangerous situation if the diesel lines are compromised,” warned Solomon.
Six fire fighting units are on scene trying to maintain the blaze.Members of the community policing forum (CPF) and security groups have pulled out for safety reasons.
“Fire is out of control. There’s thousands of litres of diesels in this line. All are requested to stay clear of the vicinity until further notice” said Shaun Venter of RTL8.
The police are on scene and are advising residents to steer clear of the area. Solomon said that Transnet confirmed they are aware of the fire and investigating further.
