Casey Pratt, media manager for The Litterboom Project, explained that this is more than a beach clean-up; it is about connecting to South Africa’s stunning coastlines while making a difference.

“Traditional beach clean-ups can sometimes feel like a chore, and people can get a little tired of the same approach. Beach Jam Sessions are about more than just picking up litter – they’re about reconnecting with the spaces we love. These sessions remind us that our beaches are ours to enjoy, but with that comes the responsibility to care for them,” said Pratt.

Rebranded in 2023, the Beach Jam Sessions have been redesigned to make clean-ups less of a chore and more community-oriented and family-friendly. Every session is unique, with elements added to raise awareness and create long-term behavioural changes, particularly those regarding single-use plastics.

“Our beaches are one of the few places we can enjoy for free, and that’s something worth appreciating. These sessions are a reminder that if we want to keep them that way, beautiful, clean and accessible, we all have a role to play. Seeing firsthand how plastic and polystyrene impact our environment might encourage people to think twice about their take-away containers and single-use plastic. It’s not just about cleaning up; it’s about shifting the way we see our coastline. If we love it, we look after it,” said Pratt.

The Litterboom Project also urges sponsors to join in the worthwhile initiative.

“We would welcome the opportunity to explore potential partnership opportunities. As a sponsor, you’ll also be eligible for a Section 18A certificate, making your contribution tax-deductible,” said Pratt.

Join the movement by participating in or sponsoring the Beach Jam Session at Brighton Beach, rolling up your sleeves in support. All activities will help these beaches remain in good condition for many more years to come.
