Preliminary reports from the scene indicated that the four suspects tried to hijack the driver on Solomon Mahlangu Drive, however the driver was quick to disarm one of the suspects and allegedly opened fire on them – killing one of the suspects.
Spokesperson for PT Alarms, Dhevan Govindasamy, confirmed the incident and said the other two suspects fled the scene after the shooting.
Spokesperson for ALS Paramedics Garrith Jamieson said when their paramedics arrived the scene, they found the police and EMRS already in attendance.
“Paramedics were directed to the scene and found two men lying in a pool of blood. Immediately Advanced Life Support Paramedics assessed both men and found that the one man had sustained major injuries as a result of gunshot wounds and there was nothing more paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene.
“The second man was found to be in a critical condition with a gunshot wound to his head and Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise him before placing him on a manual ventilator and rushing him to a nearby hospital,” said Jamieson.
Emergency services are currently at the scene. The public is urged to avoid this area as it is still an active crime scene.
