Fourth shooting incident in N2 cash-in-transit heist

ALS Paramedics have reported that one alleged suspect has died and another has sustained injuries in what is believed to be a fourth shooting incident linked to cash-in-transit heists.

A FOURTH shooting incident, believed to be linked to the violent cash-in-transit heist earlier this morning on the N2 near the NPC cement factory, has taken place on Che Guevara Road in Berea.

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said two people who were believed to be suspects in the heist, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

“One male was confirmed dead due to the injuries he sustained and another male sustained multiple gunshot wounds and is in a critical condition. He is being stabilised by the ALS Paramedics team before he is taken to a local hospital where he can receive the urgent care he needs,” said Jamieson.

He added that initial reports say that police and the suspects engaged in a shootout. Police have blocked off traffic on Che Guevara Road as investigations continue. Motorists are expected to seek alternative routes.

This incident is believed to be linked to this morning’s (February 4) cash-in-transit heist which saw the vehicle ambushed by several suspects, who managed to overturn it. An explosion forced it open. Scores of people, including security officers and civilians, were injured and one person died during the three linked shootings.

The police are still on high alert as investigations into the incident continue. This is a developing story, as more information becomes available it will be updated.
