12 children injured in school taxi accident on The Bluff

Twelve learners sustained various injuries after a taxi carrying scholars collided with two other vehicles.

TWELVE learners were injured in a horrendous school taxi crash at the corner of Blackpool Road and Marine Drive junction on The Bluff just before 07:00 this morning (March 4).

Garrith Jamieson, ALS Paramedics spokesperson, said their emergency service teams attended to the site where a taxi carrying scholars crashed into two other vehicles.

“ALS Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that multiple schoolchildren had been injured. Immediately more ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched to assist with the multiple casualty scene,” said Jamieson. 

The children who were injured sustained moderate to severe injuries, Jamieson said. ALS Paramedics stabilised the learners at the scene before transporting them to various Durban hospitals for further treatment they required.

Instances leading up to the crash still remain unknown, however the police were on scene and will be investigating further.
