Men to appear in court for hijacking trucks and kidnapping drivers

The suspects allegedly lured the victims under the pretense of being shipping container agents before they kidnapped them for three days.

THREE men accused of truck jacking and kidnapping two Tanzanian truck drivers were finally arrested during a police sting operation recently. The suspects allegedly lured the victims under the pretense of being shipping container agents.

According to police, the truck drivers had received a request to collect shipping containers from an agent in Mobeni.

Upon arriving at the arranged location on Grimsby Road, Mobeni, they met three men posing as agents. While in conversation, the suspects allegedly drew firearms and forced the drivers out of their trucks.

Sergeant Bhekumuzi Dlamini of the Montclair police station, who was part of the arrest team, said, “The suspects hijacked one truck but failed to take the second. They then forced the two victims into a getaway vehicle and transported them to an unknown location, where they were held captive for three days.”

On the third day, the suspects reportedly drove the victims back to the original crime scene. There, they abandoned one of the hijacked trucks, dropped off one of the victims, and drove away with the second, who was later released in Camperdown.

The victim left at the scene in Mobeni sought help from community members and reported the incident to the Montclair police station. This led to the Montclair Trio Crime unit launching an investigation, which culminated in the arrest of all three suspects.
