Montclair detective’s expertise leads to conviction in hijacking case involving mother and daughter

A DETECTIVE from Montclair has received accolades for his work in the recent conviction of three suspects who hijacked a woman and her child in Montclair last year, driving away with them.
Sergeant Msizi Msomi stationed at the Montclair Police Station received a certificate of appreciation from his commanders following the 27-year conviction of one of the suspects who had been arrested for hijacking.

Suspects drove away in woman’s car
The accused appeared at the Durban Magistrate’s Court recently. The court heard that on February 23, 2024 a woman was on Ronald Road in Montclair to pick up her child to go to school when three suspects approached them. The suspects demanded car keys, then jumped into the car and drove off with the victim and her child.
The police in Montclair were alerted about the hijacking in progress and reacted swiftly.
The car was chased until the suspects lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Kenyon Howden and South Coast Roads.
According to a police report, the car spun around and faced oncoming traffic.

“The victims managed to escape after the car lost control, however the suspects carried on driving away with the police in pursuit. The high speed chase continued with the police chasing the suspect towards Umlazi. Two suspects escaped, while the other was arrested by the police,” read a police statement.
The docket was assigned to Msomi for further investigation. He worked tirelessly to ensure that justice is served.
The suspect appeared in court several times until he was finally convicted.
