Pink power: Durban South community runs for breast cancer awareness [Pictures]

The Bluff was a sea of pink as women from the Durban South took part in a 5km fun run aimed at raising awareness on breast cancer.

THE Bluff was turned into a pink parade as more than 300 women took part in Team Stokes Fitness’ 5km fun walk for breast cancer awareness recently.

Taariq Stokes, Team Stokes Fitness founder, said the event helped to unite the community in memory of those who had died from breast cancer and to create awareness.

“Breast cancer has affected the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of women and families around the world. It’s close to my heart as I’ve lost my aunt in 2019 to breast cancer. This was something personal for me,” he said.

Attendees set out from the Team Stokes Fitness gym, walking to and from Ansteys Beach, walking the route with smiles, encouragement and a collective sense of solidarity. After the walk, attendees relaxed over drinks, participated in karaoke sessions and won exciting raffle prizes.

The event helped create awareness on breast cancer and promoted the sense of sisterhood and community pride on The Bluff.
