THREE suspects aged between 30 and 45 charged for possession of drugs are expected to appear at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court today (April 10).
The trio was arrested during Operation Paseka, a police sting operation conducted in Wentworth on April 9. The operation involved neighbouring police stations.
Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said the operation commenced with a parade, after which officers resumed their normal duties.

“Officers conducted the stop and search operation in Wentworth and proceeded to the flats where the arrest was made. Upon arrival at the flats the police recovered a large consignment of various drugs,” said Gumede.
The drugs that were recovered include:
- Mandrax tablets
- Heroin
- Rock cocaine
“Three suspects were arrested at the scene and were later transported to the police station and charged,” said Gumede.
The suspects were charged with the following offences:
- Possession of heroin.
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of Rock cocaine.
The police also conducted visibility patrols in the area to reinforce law enforcement presence.
Operational Vispol Commander Lieutenant Colonel Cheryl Pillay encouraged the police to place community’s needs first, remain positive, and carry out their duties with pride and dignity.
Gumede added, “The community is also urged to work with the police in order to fight against crime in Merewent area, Wentworth, Merebank and Jacobs.”
