New illegal property report form to identify issues on The Bluff

The Bluff Ratepayers and Residents Association have created a platform to report and track problem properties.

THE Bluff Ratepayers and Residents Association (BRRA) has introduced an online form for residents to report problem properties within the ward.

This initiative, according to BRRA chairperson Allison Schoeman, aims to help the association identify persistent issues and ensure these concerns are forwarded to the correct municipal departments for action.

Types of properties to report

Schoeman said the form allows residents to report properties that are potentially unsafe or structurally unsound, abandoned or neglected, occupied without permission, overcrowded, and suspected of being used for unauthorised building or business operations.

It also includes properties that present hazards related to sewage, waste, vermin, fire or environmental issues, as well as those associated with ongoing disturbances, criminal activities or risks to adjacent homes.

Keep evidence to track

“Residents are encouraged to provide as much factual information as possible, including photographs, dates, municipal reference numbers and details of any previous reports made to eThekwini Municipality, SAPS or Metro Police,” she said.

Schoeman added that this information would enable the BRRA to identify recurring problem properties, direct matters to the appropriate municipal bodies and track subsequent actions.

Safety and rules comes first

The BRRA emphasised that using this form does not substitute for reporting emergencies or filing formal complaints directly with the relevant authorities. Schoeman advised that in situations posing an immediate risk to life, safety or property, residents should contact emergency services, SAPS, Metro Police or the eThekwini Municipality without delay.

“Please report only information that is accurate to the best of your knowledge. Do not trespass, enter an unsafe property or place yourself at risk to obtain photographs or evidence,” said Schoeman.

The new reporting system is part of the BRRA’s broader efforts to create a safer, cleaner and more accountable neighbourhood.
