Community gets planting at The Bluff Showgrounds

Community members donned their gloves and grabbed their spades to play their part in revitalising The Bluff showgrounds.

THE Bluff Showgrounds received a new upgrade with the introduction of new rockery designs. Green-thumbed community members came out to try their hand at improving the showgrounds.

This initiative, spearheaded by the Bluff Ratepayers and Residents Association (BRRA), managed to bring volunteers, young and old, to plant beds and create beautiful rockery designs.

The day saw steady progress, as participants collaborated, first preparing the planting beds, then carefully turning the soil, and finally arranging decorative rockery features, all contributing to the overall aesthetic enrichment of the gardens.

Ronel Lategan, the vice chairperson of the BRRA, said that the association’s ongoing focus was on cultivating an environment both sustainable and visually pleasing. She also emphasised the critical role of community involvement. “Willing hands were always warmly received, as such participation remained fundamental to their work,” she said.

Adopt-a-spot

Lategan also reminded the community about the BRRA’s Adopt-a-Spot initiative, which encourages individuals and families to assume stewardship over smaller areas within their own neighbourhoods.

“Together, within our means, we can create a suburb we are all proud to call home,” she said.

The association expressed its gratitude to the numerous volunteers whose efforts at the showgrounds consistently surpass expectation. A particular set of thanks went to Roslyn Glazer and Derek Heale, whose unwavering care and commitment to the showgrounds garden continued to serve as a source of inspiration for all involved.

Plants in need

The garden is still on a journey to becoming fully decorated and Lategan is appealing to residents and businesses to have a look in their gardens for any plants they may have surplus of or be willing to replant at the showgrounds.

“As always, we are on the lookout for water-wise, sun-loving indigenous plants, as well as compost and potting soil, to support our ongoing efforts to beautify our shared spaces,” said Lategan.
