Woodlands rhythmic gymnast makes it to nationals

Chloe Ndaba, 11, from Woodlands once again hopes to make her family, community and school proud at the national championships.

CHLOE Ndaba of Woodlands is preparing to take her talent to the national stage when she represents KZN at the Gymnastics National Championships in Cape Town from September 23-29.

The 11-year-old rhythmic gymnast earned her spot at the competition after qualifying earlier this year. Ndaba will compete in the Level 5 individual category, and represent KZN as part of a group.

The start of a journey

For Chloe, reaching nationals is major achievement in her gymnastics journey that began with her introduction to the sport in 2022.

She found her inspiration in internationally recognised performers Sofie Dossi and Elena Shinohara.

“I liked Sofie’s movements like her flexibility because she is a contortionist and Elena, she does rhythmic especially when she uses apparatus,” said Chloe.

Since making her first twirls and jumps in rhythmic gymnastics, Chloe has devoted countless hours to training, working on her flexibility, strength and performance skills.

Favourite style of gymnastics

One of her favourite parts of the sport is the free dance floor work. It’s where she gets to express herself through movements like dolphin rolls and walkovers.

Qualifying for the national championships is a mark of Chloe’s dedication and perseverance. Now, she has the chance to compete against some of the most talented young rhythmic gymnasts in South Africa, all while proudly representing KZN.

Making the dream possible

However, reaching this level of competition involves considerable expenses. Chloe is reaching out to the community for support to help make her national dream a reality. Any funds raised will be used to cover the costs associated with the championships, including travel, accommodation, and competition necessities.

Even a small contribution would greatly ease the financial pressure on her family, allowing the promising young athlete to concentrate fully on performing her best.
