A 19-YEAR-OLD man charged with possession of drugs was released on R3000 bail at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court recently.

The accused was arrested in a block of flats in Wentworth on August 12.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said the police were acting on information received about a suspect who was in possession of drugs in one of the flats in Wentworth.

“Members of the Wentworth Crime Prevention were on patrol duties in the area when they received an intelligence information of dealing in drugs. The police proceeded to the flats, and noticed a man who fitted the description given. Upon noticing the members, he ran away. However, the police managed to arrest him,” said Gumede.

Upon conducting a search of the suspect, the police found cash and a plastic containing multiple red and white capsules containing a substance suspected to be heroin.

The accused was arrested while he was out on bail for attempted murder cases.

“During his arrest he resisted the arrest, but the members had to use minimum force to restrain him. The community members tried to take him away from police custody at the scene. I urge the community to work with the police, and not to interfere in their duties,” Gumede added.
