APPLYING for recreational fishing permits have become a lot easier thanks to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment’s (DFFE) recreational fishing permit online platform.

Making it more accessible

The new platform was launched to assist recreational fisherfolk to apply for either monthly or annual fishing permits straight from the platform.

The previous Minister of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Barbara Creecy, said that the platform cuts travel expenses.

“The online permitting system will enable enthusiastic recreational fishers and members of the public to easily access a recreational permit without having to travel distances to find a post office. Applicants will be able to choose the type of permit they require, select the period of validity, process payments and download the permit,” she said.

Post office is still an option

The decision to create an online platform stems from the closure of numerous SA Post Offices (Sapo), which is where you could originally apply for your permits. However, the online platform is meant to complement the Sapo-issued permits, so the public can still find their nearest Sapo branch to get their permits.
