A 29-year-old man is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (September 22) for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested in Montclair on September 21 following a tip-off to the police about a man allegedly in possession of unlicensed firearms.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said the Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit conducted an investigation.

“The investigation revealed that the suspect could be linked to a number of shootings that have occurred in Wentworth. Acting on information received, police officers proceeded to the suspect’s flat in Montclair. Upon arrival at the premises, the suspect attempted to flee but police swiftly caught up with him. The suspect was found in possession of two pistols with four magazines and 57 rounds of ammunition,” said Magwaza.

The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Magwaza added, “The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of any other crime.”
