Maphela was arrested after he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times in Lark Lane in Yellowwood Park. It is alleged that the victim had come to visit her boyfriend on the day of the alleged incident.

It is alleged that the victim was being held hostage by Maphela at his house when the incident occurred.

According to sources, when the police arrived at Maphela’s home they found a string wrapped tightly around his neck and cutting his throat. Apparently the string had snapped, causing Maphela’s body to fall to the floor.

The incident sparked community anger with the chairperson of the Montclair Community Police Forum, pastor Desmond James, calling on GBV victims to speak out about abuse.

“It is a serious violation of human dignity, and its consequences extend beyond the victim to children, families and the wider community. As chairperson of the Montclair Community Police Forum, my immediate concern is for the safety, dignity and well-being of the woman affected. No woman should have to live in fear within her own home or suffer abuse at the hands of someone she trusted,” said James.

He urged people who become aware of possible abuse not to look away, but to respond responsibly and assist the victim in obtaining appropriate support.
