Wentworth resident arrested over possession of drugs

The accused appeared at the Wentworth Magistrate's Court for possession of drugs. He was released on R2000 bail.

POLICE in Wentworth arrested a man suspected to be a drug runner who was allegedly found in possession of drugs. The suspect was arrested during a police operation in Lansdowne flats in Wentworth recently.

Police spokesperson in Wentworth Captain Mbuso Gumede said the Crime Prevention unit members were patrolling around the flats when they received information about a man in possession of drugs.

“The suspect was spotted in the Lansdowne flats. Upon noticing the police he tried to escape. The police gave chase and he was arrested. The police searched him and found drugs hidden in his pants pockets,” said Gumede.

The police found the following:
  • 40 red and white capsules suspected to be heroine
  • 15 small pink pieces of capsules suspected to be rock cocaine.
  • Nine small white pieces of capsules suspected to be rock cocaine.
  • Cash amount of R60 (which the police believed to be proceeds from selling of drugs).

“The accused was taken to the police station and charged for dealing and possession of drugs. He appeared at the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on September 15 and was released on R2000 bail,” said Gumede.

The matter was adjourned for November 1.

“The station commander, Colonel Sinayo Mtshali, commended the members of Crime Prevention “B” group for making the arrest.  She urged the members of the public to report crime to the police.
