Police bust cannabis shops, seize drugs worth over R1m

The police sting operation was conducted in Montclair, Brighton Beach, Umbilo and Amanzimtoti where cannabis shops were raided.

FIVE suspects aged between 22 and 41 were arrested for dealing in drugs with an estimated street value of R1.3m on March 19. The police operation was conducted in Montclair, Brighton Beach, Umbilo and Amanzimtoti.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said the Provincial Organised Crime Narcotics and Organised Crime Threat Unit conducted the operation.

“They followed intelligence about a suspect who was suspected to be dealing in cannabis from four of his shops located at Umbilo, Amanzimtoti, Brighton Beach and Montclair,” said Magwaza.

He said the team executed the search warrant simultaneously on all targeted premises on Thursday.

The main suspect was arrested at a different location and was taken to his place of residence in Yellowwood Park where more cannabis was recovered.

“The street value of the recovered cannabis is estimated to be R1.3m.

All the arrested suspects were charged for dealing in drugs and are due to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (March 20).
