According to eThekwini Municipality, the operations team from Water Services Directorate will be undertaking a planned shutdown of the bulk infrastructure on the Southern Aqueduct pipeline.
This is to assist the contractors in undertaking some work in preparation for the new Southern Aqueduct upgrade project.
“The Southern Aqueduct will be shut down to help scour the applicable sections of the aqueduct to allow contractors to carry out planned work between the existing pipeline and the new pipeline as part of an upgrade project,” said eThekwini Municipality in a statement.
The team will monitor reservoir levels during the shutdown and dependent on the demands and if reservoir levels drop, reservoir outlets may be shut to preserve storage and reduce the recovery period.
Affected areas include:
- Bayview
- Coedmore
- Havenside
- Phumphele
- Umhlathuzana
- Woodhurst
- Woodlands
