Durban South faces water outages amid emergency repairs
Technical team from water operations is currently undertaking work to repair two bursts at Wiggins High Pressure Supply Main.
MANY areas in the Durban South are experiencing water outages due to emergency repairs on the Wiggins high-pressure supply chain.
According to eThekwini Municipality, its technical team from water operations is working to repair two bursts on the 750mm diameter steel Wiggins High Pressure Supply Main.

“The affected main has been isolated to allow repairs to proceed, resulting in water supply interruptions to the Woodlands 1 and 2 Reservoirs, Bluff 1 Reservoir, Bluff 2 and 3 Reservoirs, Bluff South Reservoir, Lamont Reservoir and Mobeni Rear Reservoir,” said eThekwini in a statement.
As repairs continue, reservoir storage levels and water demand are being closely monitored.
To preserve available storage and support system recovery once repairs are completed, water supply outlets may be temporarily shut.
“Depending on reservoir storage volumes, water may be supplied during peak demand periods. Due to difficult terrain and site access requirements, the repair process remains challenging. An update on the estimated repair completion time will be provided later today,” eThekwini said.
Water tankers will be deployed, where possible, to provide temporary relief to affected communities while repairs are underway.
Areas affected:
- Woodlands 1 and 2 Reservoirs: Austerville, Clairwood, Mobeni, Montclair, Sea View, Wentworth, Woodlands and Yellowwood Park.
- Bluff 1, 2 and 3 and South Reservoirs: Austerville, Bayhead, Brighton Beach, Cave Rock, Fynnlands, Grosvenor, Jacobs, Merewent, Ocean View, Stanvac, Treasure Beach and Wentworth.
- Lamont Reservoir: Havenside, Joe Slovo, Lamont, Mobeni and Mobeni Heights.
