Tabitha Community Care Services: Haven for all in the community

Tabitha Community Care Services offers support to those in need or struggling with addiction, but they are in need of donations and sponsorships. They have introduced a fundraising thrift shop and appeal to the community to support their new endeavour.

NESTLED at the heart of Wentworth resides a sanctuary of compassion and assistance, Tabitha Community Care Services.

Founded in 2011 by Renette Roskruge, initially operating from her home and those of her friends, this organisation has since grown into an indispensable community asset, offering essential support to those in need.

From its modest origins, Tabitha Community Care Services has undergone significant evolution, finding its permanent residence at 4 Tifflin Road, Wentworth. Officially registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) in 2015, the centre’s mission has expanded to tackle various societal challenges, driven by the unyielding dedication of its founders and supporters.

Originally conceived as a community health project, the organisation’s scope broadened as Roskruge recognised the urgent requirement for a feeding programme within the community. Presently, the centre runs a feeding initiative every Wednesday and Friday, ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive nutritious meals.

Tabitha Community Care Services extends beyond basic sustenance. Acknowledging the prevalence of alcohol and drug addiction in the vicinity, the centre offers specialised programmes for those grappling with addiction. Whether through group sessions or individual counselling, individuals discover comfort and guidance on their path to recovery.

In an endeavour to combat the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS, the organisation regularly conducts community outreach programmes, providing free HIV testing under the campaign banner ‘Know Your Status’. These endeavours not only foster awareness but also promote proactive healthcare practices within the community.

As donations and sponsorships decline, Tabitha Community Care Services has introduced a fundraising thrift shop within its premises. Overseen by Marvin Rall, one of the administrators and HIV counsellors, the thrift shop serves as a crucial source of income for the centre.

To contribute or volunteer, reach out to Renette Roskruge at 067 075 4163. Alternatively, monetary donations can be made to the organisation’s First National Bank account: 62637988033, Branch code 210802, with the reference ‘Area of donation’.
