The rally promises a safe and welcoming atmosphere for individuals whose lives were impacted by another’s alcohol consumption. The organisation said this year’s theme echoes the organisation’s decades-old mission, “Help and Hope for Families of Alcoholics”.
“Al-Anon Family Groups have provided confidential assistance to people injured by a drinking member of their family for over 70 years. Alcoholism is a sickness, and even though we cannot prevent someone from drinking, Al-Anon helps people learn to cope and bring positive change to their own lives,” said the organisation.
The meeting is open and everyone is invited to be able to hear first-hand recovery stories, learn from seasoned members and connect with others who are on the same journey.
Al-Anon stresses the long-term impact of alcoholism, on wives, husbands, children and even on grandchildren.
“Children who grow up in alcoholic homes tend to carry emotional scars into adulthood. Left to their own devices, the cycle can continue. But there is hope,” said the organisation.
Al-Anon and teen-focused sister group, Alateen, are peer support systems, with members giving and receiving support and applying proven principles to deal with the issues of living with an alcohol involved person.
