Run wild at the new Stainbank Spring Trail Run

The Yellowwood Park Athletic Club is calling on the community to take on their new fundraising spring trail run.

YELLOWWOOD Park Athletic Club (YWPAC) is encouraging the community to take on their new Stainbank Spring Trail Run fundraiser, which takes place on Sunday (October 19), at the scenic Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve.

The fun run offers a 12km challenge and a 5km fun run along the lush trails of the popular reserve. David Lamont, club captain for YWPAC, said the event has something for everyone, from nature lovers to runners.

“This is a new trail run in the Stainbank Reserve, with excellent running and walking trails for everyone to experience. It is a good opportunity to also view the area’s natural beauty, from the zebras to the bucks to the duiker and birdlife,” said Lamont.

The trail run is as much about charity as it is about fun and fitness. All funds raised will go to the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Honorary Officers. Lamont said the honorary officers are a dedicated group of volunteers who assist Ezemvelo in vital conservation initiatives.

Runners will start and finish their courses at the historical Coedmore Castle, situated in the middle of the reserve. The 12km run gets underway at 07:00, and the 5km run/walk follows at 07:30. Registration opens at 06:00, and anyone who has not entered online has an opportunity to enter on the day.

Entry is R165 for the 12km and R120 for the 5km, with water tables offering hydration and snacks along the route. There will also be food and coffee sold at the venue.

Lamont called on residents to get out and back the cause while enjoying a morning in the beautiful outdoors. “It is a good way to return to nature, support conservation and be part of our wonderful community,” he said.
