According to Ramesh Singh, the school’s acting principal, Grade R learners participate in organised swimming classes taught by certified Swim South Africa coaches. The Learn to Swim plan aims to help children feel secure in the water, learn basic swimming skills and understand safety around water.

Singh said that the project is a component of the school’s dedication to complete education and learner safety.

“Even though this was their first time swimming properly, our Grade R learners were brave, confident and excited. They reacted well to the support and instruction from the coaches,” he said.

The programme will prepare learners for the school’s swimming gala, which is planned for March 26. There, they can show off how far they’ve come and pick up important lessons about teamwork and sportsmanship.
