Garrith Jamieson, the spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, shared that the incident likely stemmed from a gas leak from a nearby property, which then spread into the school.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found multiple learners experiencing respiratory distress. One learner has believed to have had some sort of seizure,” said Jamieson.

While investigations are underway, it is believed that the strong smell is coming form the Island View direction near the harbour.

ALS Paramedics along with EMRS Paramedics are working together to stabilise as many learners as they can at the location. Jamieson added that the eThekwini Fire Department is also on scene and have secured the area ensuring the safety of the medical personnel.

As a safety measure, the school has been closed for the day and parents are being urged to fetch their children.

This is a developing story and as more information becomes available will be updated.
