Residents, driving schools protest at Rossburgh Licensing Centre
The angry residents complained about the new computer system, claiming it crashes frequently, resulting in people being turned away.
FRUSTRATED community members and owners of various driving schools held a picket at Rossburgh Licensing Centre recently.
The angry residents were complaining about the new computer system at the centre that they claim crashes all the time, and people who have booked for their driving test or made appointments are being turned away.
A resident from The Bluff, Jairaj Ranberhary, who was among the people protesting, said the situation was chaotic with people grappling to get their bookings made on time.
Ranberhary said, “The department of transport brought the new computers that freeze all the time. People traveling long distances to get to the Rossburgh centre only to be told that they cannot be assisted because the computers are down. None of this ever happened before the department brought the new computers.”
He complained about long queues that sometimes stretch from the entrance all the way to the offices.
“People are left unattended for long hours which is both unfair and frustrating. We have already raised the issue with the officials at the centre, but unfortunately they told us their hands are tied. We urge the department to address the situation currently unfolding at the centre,” he said.
Attempts to get comment from the Department of Transport and Rossburgh Testing Centre were unsuccessful at the time of publishing.
