Breaking away from the routine of the John Dunn Tafta home, the elderly residents enjoyed a fun swimming trip to the pool.
THE John Dunn The Association for the Aged (Tafta) residents recently came together with other seniors from various Tafta homes for a combined swimming gala at the Bellair Municipal Swimming Pool.

Femada Shamam, Tafta CEO, said the pool day was carefully arranged to provide the residents with a chance to engage socially, find pleasure in a shared activity and experience a pleasant deviation from their regular daily schedules.
Showing support for each other
In total, 75 seniors participated in the gala. While some individuals enthusiastically entered the pool, ready to compete in various swimming races, others chose to observe from the poolside, offering support and encouragement to those in the water.
A palpable excitement filled the air around the pool as each participant, regardless of their role, demonstrated a clear sense of enthusiasm and determination. Shamam said it was a vivid reminder that the pursuit of activity knew no age limits.
“Initiatives such as these play an important role in promoting active ageing, encouraging older persons to remain healthy, engaged and open to new experiences. The event also forms part of Tafta’s ongoing wellness programme, aligned with the domains of well-being within the Eden Alternative philosophy,” said Shamam.
Tafta consistently endeavours to cultivate environments where older individuals can truly flourish. Ultimately, the gala served to underscore not only the significance of physical activity but also to reaffirm the value of community spirit.
