The fourth edition of the fundraiser is scheduled to take place at the Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve on August 30. The popular fundraising event, which had steadily grown since its inception, aims to unite the community in support of wildlife conservation while offering a calming day in nature.

What to expect?

Clint Halkett-Siddall, Crow’s director, said that the walk itself would begin at 08:00, though other festivities are planned to start earlier.

“A market is set to operate from 06:30 until 12:00. Participants can begin their day with breakfast or coffee before the walk, and then enjoy lunch afterward, while also taking part in raffles and experiencing the general festival atmosphere that the Walk in the Wild fundraiser brings,” said Halkett-Siddall.

Beyond the guided walk through the reserve, attendees can also expect live entertainment, various food stalls, exhibitions, educational activities and other attractions suitable for families.

A steady growth

The event had established itself as one of Crow’s most successful community initiatives, having attracted nearly 700 participants in 2025. Halkett-Siddall said that the growing number signifies the community’s commitment to wildlife conservation.

For this year’s event, the Crow team have set a higher objective, aiming to attract at least 850 participants. As a way to motivate these sign-ups, the first 850 individuals to register would receive a complimentary event T-shirt and a goodie bag.

“Walk in the Wild is one of Crow’s flagship fundraising events. Every year, Crow rescues, rehabilitates and releases thousands of injured, orphaned and displaced wild animals from across KZN. The funds raised through this event help cover the costs of veterinary treatment, medication, transport, enclosures and the daily care required to give injured, abandoned and displaced wildlife a second chance at life in the wild. Beyond fundraising for Crow, the event also creates awareness about wildlife conservation and the important role the public can play in protecting our wildlife,” said Halkett-Siddall.

Who should take part?

Halkett-Siddall extended an invitation to nature lovers, hikers, families seeking an outing or anyone simply wishing to contribute, explaining that each ticket purchased supports Crow’s vital work in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
