AS part of the national commemoration of Women’s Month and Women’s Day, the Brighton Beach Community Police Forum (CPF) Youth Desk will host a community outreach and awareness campaign on August 10.

The aim of the campaign is to promote safer communities and empower young people to become active citizens.

Chairperson of the Bluff Police Forum, Sidney Govindsamy, said the initiative will focus on raising awareness about the growing challenges of:

• Gender-based violence.
• Drug and substance abuse.
• The importance of youth participation in crime prevention and community development.

“Volunteers will distribute educational pamphlets, engage with members of the public, and provide information on support services available within the community. In addition to the awareness campaign, the youth desk will also conduct a youth recruitment drive, inviting young people who are passionate about making a positive difference to become part of the Brighton Beach CPF youth desk,” said Govindsamy.

He said the initiative seeks to encourage responsible citizenship, leadership, volunteerism, and active participation in building safer neighbourhoods.

The outreach will take place at the following venues:

Bluff Towers – Time: 09:00 to 09:30

Bluff Hillside Mall – Time: 10:00 to 10:30

“The Brighton Beach CPF youth desk believes that community safety is everyone’s responsibility and that meaningful change begins with informed, engaged, and empowered citizens. This Women’s Month, we pay tribute to the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women in our communities while reaffirming our commitment to combating GBV and creating safer spaces for women and children,” Govindsamy added.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the awareness stations, collect educational material, speak to the volunteers, and learn how they can become involved in community safety initiatives.
