CPF Clairwood recruits volunteer patrollers

The volunteers will work closely with the Brighton Beach police station to create a stronger partnership between residents and police.

THE Clairwood Community Police Forum (CPF) has strengthened its fight against crime with the recent recruitment of 25 volunteer patrollers who will assist in monitoring the area, particularly during the high-risk winter months.

The initiative, spearheaded by Clairwood CPF deputy chairperson, Ravin Brijlal, aims to improve safety and visibility in the community as shorter daylight hours create opportunities for criminal activity.

According to Brijlal, the volunteers have already committed their services to patrol various parts of Clairwood during key periods when residents are most vulnerable.

The programme forms part of a broader community-driven strategy to work alongside law enforcement agencies in reducing crime and ensuring greater public safety.

Brijlal said the timing of the initiative was critical as winter approaches.

“With the days becoming shorter and darkness setting in earlier, criminals often take advantage of the reduced visibility, especially during the early hours of the morning. Our volunteer patrollers will provide a much-needed presence in the community and assist in deterring criminal activities,” said Brijlal.

He said residents have welcomed the initiative, saying increased patrols would offer reassurance to families and business owners who have raised concerns over safety in recent months.

Volunteers will work closely with the Brighton Beach police station to create a stronger partnership between residents and police.

Brijlal said the collaboration is intended to improve response times, strengthen communication within the community, and enhance the reporting of suspicious activities.

CPF calls on residents to join fight against crime

Brijlal has also encouraged residents to become involved in the patrolling initiative. He said that greater community participation would further strengthen safety measures in the area.

“Crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility. By standing together as a community and supporting the work of the police we can make Clairwood a safer place for all residents,” he added.
