Rescue team saves dog trapped on Edwin Swales Drive
Venter said a member from Hendriks Towing, and one of RTL8's valued affiliates, confirmed that the dog was still trapped in the drain.
A DOG that was trapped inside a stormwater drain on Edwin Swales Drive was rescued on August 5.
Shaun Venter from Retaliate (RTL8) said he received a call, together with a video, from a resident showing a dog trapped deep inside a stormwater drain.

“Ward 66 councillor Zoè Solomon and I immediately reached out to several organisations in the hope that someone would be able to assist. Sadly, despite numerous attempts, we received no response,” said Venter.
Venter said a member from Hendriks Towing and one of RTL8’s valued affiliates, confirmed that the dog was still trapped in the drain. Without hesitation, a team was mobilised.
Venter said the dedicated team of volunteers arrived on scene to save the life of the dog.
“No one asked whose responsibility it was. No one waited for someone else to act. They simply showed up,” said Venter.

“A special mention must go to JP Kruger, who courageously climbed down into the manhole to reach the frightened puppy. After carefully securing the dog, he lifted it safely into the waiting hands of the team above. The puppy was initially transported to Brighton Beach Vets for assessment. Due to the injuries it sustained while trapped in the drain, it will now be transferred to the SPCA to receive the treatment and care it needs. If this is your dog, or if you know who the owner is, please contact the SPCA as soon as possible to collect him,” said Venter.
He said the day served as another reminder that a community is strongest when people choose to care.
“This rescue wasn’t about recognition or reward. It was about compassion, teamwork, and refusing to leave a helpless animal behind. I would like to thank every person who gave their time, effort and heart,” Venter added.
