Merebank Fair is back in full swing
The Merebank Book Legacy Trust's annual Merebank Fair fundraiser returns with two weekends of family fun and entertainment.
THERE is a buzz in the air in Merebank, as the Merebank Fair is set to take over the Badulla Drive Sports Grounds for six full days. The fair, organised by the Merebank Book Legacy Trust, is spread across two weekends, August 21 to 23 and August 28 to 30.

Kalay Iyman, spokesperson for the fair, said visitors can enjoy six days of thrilling entertainment, delicious food, exciting shopping, family fun and community celebration. The fair will feature a wide variety of food stalls, clothing, arts and crafts, jewellery, cosmetics, children’s attractions and games.
Rev your engines at the motor car show
A big draw this year will be the motor car show, put together with the Ford Motor Club. Iyman said that people who love cars will get to see a whole range of vehicles, from old classics to souped-up modern ones. Beyond the cars, there will be competitions, live entertainment, cultural acts and other things to do over the six days.
Edufair returns
The fair will kick off a bit earlier on Fridays with an Edufair for learners. The first Friday, August 21, is for primary schoolers and the second Friday, August 28, is for high school learners.

The cause behind the fair
The Merebank Fair has a purpose beyond entertainment. The money raised by the Merebank Book Legacy Trust goes towards community projects and helps publish the highly anticipated Merebank Community Book. The book itself will be launched on September 13 at the MTSS Hall. For more details about the launch, contact Logas Madunlall at 083 775 4401.
Chairperson of the Merebank Book Legacy Trust, Viren Singh, and the rest of the organising team are hoping people from Merebank, and the surrounding areas will come out and support the fair, making it the biggest one yet.
The fair opens at 15:00 on Fridays, 10:00 on Saturdays and 12:00 on Sundays.
