Women’s forum calls for nominations for women’s award
The Merebank Alliance Forum’s Women’s Forum is calling on community members to nominate women whose work has gone unnoticed.
THE Merebank Alliance Forum’s (MAF) Women’s Forum is looking for women whose quiet dedication has shaped their community to be nominated for their Woman of Substance Award.
The award is meant to recognise those who pour their time, energy and resources into helping others without necessarily seeking the spotlight.

Premilla Deonath, the chairperson of the forum, said that the initiative was started to celebrate women who consistently make a positive impact in Merebank.
“Many women work hard to help the community, but their contributions are not always properly acknowledged. This award is a way to formally recognise and honour them,” she said.
Eligibility
To be eligible, nominees must be from Merebank and show a strong commitment to community service, a lasting positive effect on others, integrity, selfless leadership and a focus on empowering women. Their approach should be community-focused and non-political.
The woman who receives the award will be given a R1000 donation to a registered charity or community cause of her choice, funded by a sponsoring family. She will also receive a pamper gift and a certificate. The award ceremony will take place on August 23 at the Merebank Community Centre during the MAF Women’s Forum’s Women’s Day event.

Deonath is also requesting businesses and individuals to help sponsor prizes and gifts for the recipients, and to support the Women’s Day function.
The goal of this initiative is not just to honour individual women, but also to highlight the collaborative spirit of women supporting, empowering and uplifting each other in Merebank.
Casting your nomination
The deadline for nominations is August 12. Each nomination needs the full name of the nominee, contact information and a brief explanation of why she deserves the award. Submissions can be sent via WhatsApp to 082 772 6076.
