God’s ‘little’ creatures – Gaudy Commodore Butterfly

Today I would like to share the Gaudy Commodore Butterfly with you.

This is one of only a few butterflies in South Africa that come in two different colour forms, depending on the time of year they are seen.

In this case the summer form is red/orange and the winter for is blue, however they are both the same species. in Spring and autumn one can sometimes even find and intermediate colour form, basically this just meens that the butterfly was a little confused on what time of the year it was, so it comes out with a bit of blue and a bit of red on.
