EDITOR – Could Southlands Sun and Yellowwood Park ward councillor, Billie Prinsloo please visit the park in Yellowwood Park which is situated between the intersections of Heron Way and Starling Avenue and the intersection of Penguin Walk and Starling Avenue in Yellowwood Park.
The park has a playground with swings in the middle of it.
The park has been neglected, the grass is overgrown from not being cut and one of the playground equipment items has fallen over. Another piece of rusted equipment which was removed from the ground with the concrete base showing has been left like that since last year. There is also a tree which fell down last year, blocking the entrance to the playground.
It was reported to Ethekwini Municipality parks department but nothing was done. After the tree had blocked the access to the park for months, someone cut the middle part of the tree into pieces and took it away so that children could regain access to the park. The tree stump and roots are still there.
The condition and maintenance of the park and playground equipment is shocking. How does the municipality expect children to play in the park in the state that it is in?
When last did the municipality maintain the park and playground equipment?
