Orange bag fiasco shows lack of management

More than a year ago the same excuse was made by DSW

EDITOR – According to a letter to householders from Dudzile Ndlovu, manager of education and waste minimisation of Durban Solid Waste (DSW) dated 3 July, “challenges with the supply of orange bags are being experienced but which are being dealt with at the highest level of city management.”

More than a year ago, the same excuse was made by DSW.

In both instances the reason given is unacceptable. If management was monitoring the supply of orange bags, it would have become aware of shortcomings and sought an alternative supplier so as to ensure continuity in delivery.

Clearly that did not happen, which shows incompetence by those in management. They failed to have a plan B in place in the event of a breakdown in supply. Equally lax in this respect is councillor oversight and their so-called ward committees. It should not have been necessary for me to visit the Area Based Management office at 398 Bluff Road so as to bring the orange bag shortage to their attention and thereby emphasise the need to expedite a solution.
